Call of Duty Introducing Female Lead In Black Ops III

Call of Duty: Black Ops III introduces a "gender neutral" story

By Hunter Braine

Treyarch's Call of Duty: Black Ops III will be featuring the first female lead character playable in the story mode.  Players will be able to choose the gender at the beginning of the story, developer Treyarch says they took inspiration from the Mass Effect series, having a gender neutral story where the script doesn't change based on the players gender.

The campaign also supports four player co-op in the campaign, with each player choosing the gender of the protagonist, players could potentially have four female leads in the story.

Treyarch also discussed the customization options in Black Ops III, detailing how players can modify outfits, weapons, paint jobs, and more and that would show throughout every game mode.

This raises an interesting question as to how much Treyarch took from the Mass Effect series, hinting that the character the player creates could be played in many different ways and not have a solid identity like in previous games, Black Ops II started playing with this idea with the different choices Alex Mason makes throughout the story.
